Here in the U.S. we’re celebrating our Independence Day.

Though I don’t always agree with the things our government does, and the choices made by those we put there, I still wouldn’t want to live anywhere else.

I love this country, and the great things we do and have done ^[1] — even when it’s overshadowed by assclowns (Take your pick. There’s plenty to choose from on both sides of the aisle).

Why?

For one, the fact that I can say what I just did — because I have the freedom to do so.

The other main reason is the opportunities available to us. Warren Buffet talks about the “ovarian lottery ^[2]” of being born in this country, in this time. He got a winning ticket, since his special skills wouldn’t amount to much in many parts of the world.

Neither would mine.

Now, I’m off to eat some ‘que ^[3] with the family (Eastern NC style ^[4] — the only kind IMHO).
